Genesis 1:2 says “Let there be light, and there was light…” Have you ever wondered what light YHVH is talking about? First of all it amazes me YHVH spoke words and things came into being. However, He doesn’t make the sun, moon and stars, the light source we know today, until Day 4. I have heard many possible explanations, but the one that intrigues me most is connected with John 1. The apostle John ties this light with Yeshua in John 1:4-5 which says “In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” Yeshua is the light of Genesis 1:2? Wow. But more than that, He is also called the Word in John 1:1-3, the expression YHVH used to create all things. A study of the apostolic writings teaches that Yeshua was the Creator of all things (John 1, Colossians 1). It’s a deep and difficult truth which I have wrestled with for years. Part of my studies has included a redefining of words because definitions have changed throughout history. Take the word gay for instance; first it meant “happy, joyful,” then it described an “alternative lifestyle,” and now it means “dumb, ridiculous.” I have even struggled to believe that YHVH’s word hasn’t been tainted by all the changes in language. However, YHVH’s character hasn’t changed and I’ve concluded He has maintained the integrity of His word. Psalm 119:89 says –
“Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.”
Knowing that Your word is an expression of You, one called Yeshua, changes my perspective completely. Lord, thank you for showing me I can stand confident and can trust Your word and that it can’t be tainted… by anyone.
