Sharing the Gospel

Screen Shot 2013-03-31 at 5.46.49 PM

What’s the best method for sharing the good news? I can’t really give you a pat answer. It depends on your personality, their situation and His leading. But I can tell you what the best message is…the gospel! Memorize it, personalize it and then contextualize it to whatever situation you are in and whatever method you choose to use. Pastor Mark share this message of encouragement on sharing the gospel as part of of one spiritual discipline. Read More »

The Issue of Salvation

Susie Med

Before beginning to study Acts 15, let’s step back to Genesis and study salvation. YHVH’s plan started with the head of a household and salvation spread throughout his family.  It happened with Adam, Noah and Abraham.  YHVH spoke directly with each man who was responsible for passing on God’s instructions to his family.  YHVH continued in this manner through Isaac, Jacob and his sons.  However, when YHVH saved Israel from Egypt, He took a new approach, not because He couldn’t lead and guide households through the father, but because the nation feared such a relationship.  So YHVH gave His instructions for governing a nation to Moses in the form of a marriage contract called a ketubah. However, entering a relationship with YHVH is no light matter.  Each relationship was established through a blood covenant and a sign: with Noah, a rainbow; Abraham, circumcision; Moses, the Sabbath; and finally David, a house.

Salvation has always come first and has not required anything more than genuine faith in YHVH.  No covenant superseded another covenant, but they built upon each other; the salvation brought through YHVH’s covenant with Abraham lead to the covenant of sanctification of Abraham’s descendants at Mt. Sinai.  Although man cannot break the covenant YHVH gave Abraham, he was able to (and has) break the covenant given through Moses to Israel.  Yeshua came as Messiah to reestablish a national covenantal relationship with the house of Israel and Judah so that YHVH could fulfill His promise to Abraham to bring salvation to all nations.  It was important for me to understand this before studying passages like Acts 15.    Hebrews 11:1 says –

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

So in faith I will continue this study, so please bear with me.

I begin this series with fear and trembling.  It includes 5 devotionals, one building upon another.  It is my hope to answer questions within the extent of the series, but I expect there to be questions from the start. Bear with me.  If I don’t answer your questions by the last devotional, please write to me and I will see what I can do.  However, I am on my knees praying that what’s written will encourage everyone to study and broaden their understanding of YHVH.  I look forward to hearing what people are learning in their studies.

Verses for further study:

“I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”  Genesis 9:13

“And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.”  Genesis 17:9-11

“And the Lord said to Moses, 13 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. “ Exodus 31:12-13

“He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”  2 Samuel 7:13

“I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” Genesis 22:17-18

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord.”  Jeremiah 31:31-32, Hebrews 8 (explanation)

“These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”  Matthew 10:5-7

“But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”  Matthew 15:23-24

Mark 4:35-41 (ESV)

35  On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another,“Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
